Melting Pot Theatre Company (MPTC) is proud to present its annual gala: a one-night-only, all-star concert reading of the 1947 radio play adaptation of My Darling Clementine, John Ford’s 1946 western starring Henry Fonda.  This classic story of the O.K. Corral is presented in humorous period style by a wonderful cast of Broadway and film stars:

The cast at press time (subject to change) includes Tony and Drama Desk winner and three-time Oscar nominee Joan Allen (The Upside of Anger, Bourne Supremacy), four-time Tony nominee Gregg Edelman (Wonderful Town, Into The Woods), Drama Desk nominee Kerry O’Malley (Into The Woods, Showtime’s Brotherhood), 3-time Tony nominee and Drama Desk winner Brian Murray (The Crucible, Little Foxes), Drama Desk winner Michael Cullen (Bug, Cobb), Audelco Award winner Helmar Augustus Cooper (Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, As You Like It) Sam Cohen (TheatreSports), David Lutken (Inherit the Wind, Ring of Fire), Guy Paul (Twelve Angry Men, Stuff Happens), Charlie Pollock (Urinetown, Tick Tick Boom), Ric Stoneback (1776, Tom Sawyer), Clarke Thorell (Hairspray, Lone Star Love), Debra Walton (Pajama Game, Cookin’ at the Cookery), with Fred Newman (“A Prairie Home Companion”) providing live sound effects.  Wayne Barker (Dame Edna) provides music direction and Nick Corley (Tall Grass, Flight) directs.

Melting Pot Theatre Company opened its first production, The Portable Pioneer and Prairie Show, at the Theatre at Riverside Church in February 1997.  There have been dozens of productions, concerts, workshops, readings, and educational programs since then.  Founding Artistic Director Larry Hirschhorn said, “It’s hard to believe that it’s been ten years! We’ve had an amazing time thus far, and I am so grateful to all of the artists, technicians, and funders that have helped us reach this wonderful milestone. To last ten years in this town is something of a miracle, so I’m extremely proud.”

In past seasons, MPTC's benefit gala featured the Lux Radio Theatre adaptations of It's A Wonderful Life and All About Eve.

The live recording of MPTC's concert production of STRIKING 12 is now available
in stores and at PSClassics.com!  It makes a terrific holiday gift!

MELTING POT THEATRE COMPANY (MPTC) is a professional, not-for-profit, off-Broadway production company led by Founding Artistic Director Larry Hirschhorn and Managing Director Sean Patrick Flahaven. We create, develop, and produce New York premieres of plays and musicals that explore the themes, people, and events that shape the unique American experience.  MPTC presents culturally diverse theatre that is emotionally stirring, thought-provoking, and reflects our country’s population.  We seek out emerging writers, composers, directors, and performers, and provide them with a nurturing environment in which they are able to develop their work and see the fruits of their labor realized in fully-staged productions.

Since 1997, MPTC has produced 15 acclaimed off-Broadway productions.  COBB, by Lee Blessing, received the 2001 Drama Desk Award for Best Ensemble Performance and, with the support of co-producers Kevin Spacey and Elizabeth McCann, transferred to the Lucille Lortel Theatre for a celebrated commercial run. Woody Guthrie's American Song was nominated for two Drama Desk Awards, including "Best New Musical Revue," and the Outer Critics' Circle Award for "Outstanding Off-Broadway Musical."  Miss Evers’ Boys by David Feldshuh, received four AUDELCO Award nominations. Last season, MPTC presented the critically acclaimed New York premiere of Cookin’ at the Cookery: The Music and Times of Alberta Hunter, which was nominated for two Drama Desk Awards, two Drama League Awards (including Distinguished Production of a Musical), and six AUDELCO Awards.

MPTC is also proud to have two educational outreach programs: HEADS UP, which brings schoolchildren to special performances and interactive audience discussions, and LET'S HEAR IT!, which brings professional actors into New York City Public Schools to present readings of plays as part of the curriculum.

In 2004, MPTC launched PRELUDES: New Musicals in Concert.  This series of public concerts of new musicals reflects MPTC’s ongoing mission to develop and produce new American work. The first show in the PRELUDES series in April 2004 was Vanishing Point, by Rob Hartmann, Liv Cummins, and Scott Keys.  Tony Award nominees Alison Fraser, Emily Skinner, and Barbara Walsh starred.  The second show was Striking 12 by Brendan Milburn, Rachel Sheinkin, and Valerie Vigoda, starring the pop-rock trio Groovelily.
